International Mining Geology 2026 in Resources Review Magazine

AusIMM will host the International Mining Geology Conference 2026 on 21–22 April 2026 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing together mining geology professionals, researchers and decision-makers from across the globe.
Geology, geography and geopolitics are shaping the future of the resources sector and its role in the wider world.
The expertise of geoscience professionals is the key enabler for governments, industry and community as they seek to capture new value across the minerals value chain. Whether looking to move from production to processing, or even into manufacturing, it all begins with exploration, resource definition and a careful assessment of mining-related opportunities based on what we know about the minerals beneath our feet.
Geoscience is not only more important but arguably more challenging than ever, as industry taps into more complex deposits in pursuit of critical and strategic minerals, as major basins are depleted, and new deposits are discovered in communities where mining is either altogether new or has a complex legacy.
What does this mean in practice? It means the professional community we convene through AusIMM at events such as the International Mining Geology Conference, have a shared responsibility to ensure best practice in all operations, develop and adopt new technologies and to improve geological understanding.
Daniel Howe, Chief Geological Officer at Northern Star Resources Limited and Chair of the International Mining Geology Conference 2026 Advisory Committee said about the conference:
“The focus of the International Mining Geology Conference 2026 is to demonstrate how mining geologists create real-world value, through innovation, reconciliation, and practical case studies that show how new tools and technologies are helping set our profession up for the future.”
Presenting at the International Mining Geology Conference are keynote presenters including:
- Mark Berry MAIG – Director & Principal Geologist, Derisk Geomining Consultants
- Andrew Engelbrecht – Senior Manager Mine and Exploration Geology, Gold Fields
- Lauren Elliot – Principal Ore Deposit Knowledge Geologist, Lihir Gold Mine
- Dr Neville Plint – CEO, Mining3
The event will also feature a Young Professionals Day on 20 April 2026 and include a dedicated program designed for early career professionals looking to build capability, expand their networks and help foster their next steps into a mining career.
