Are you passionate about upholding professional standards in the resources sector? The VALMIN Committee invites dedicated members of the AusIMM and AIG to express their interest in joining a dynamic team contributing to the future shape of public reporting in our industry.

The ‘Australasian Code for Public Reporting of Technical Assessments and Valuations of Mineral Assets’, (VALMIN Code) sets the benchmark for assessing and valuing mineral assets and securities in public reports—including those attached to prospectuses and independent expert reports. Since its first publication in 1995, and through subsequent editions in 1997, 2005, and 2015, the VALMIN Code has served as a vital companion to the JORC Code, which is currently under review.

The VALMIN Committee was established to develop and maintain the Code, with equal representation from the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy (AusIMM) and the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG). We are now seeking nominations to fill three vacancies (2 for AIG, 1 for AusIMM), and invite members to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Why get involved? Serving on the VALMIN Committee is a rewarding volunteer experience. It’s a fantastic way to:

  • Engage with the AusIMM and AIG communities,
  • Promote and uphold professional standards,
  • Collaborate with like-minded professionals across the resources sector.

As a committee member, you’ll be expected to be a financial member of either institute and available for regular remote meetings. Importantly, with the VALMIN Code update process set to begin after the release of the next JORC Code edition, all committee members will be expected to play an active and influential role in this significant update.  As the update progresses, this will involve a significant commitment with all committee members allocated tasks and timelines for completion.

Selection Process & Criteria EOIs will be reviewed by the current committee, who will recommend appointments to the AusIMM and AIG Boards for approval. Candidates will be evaluated against the following criteria (including, but not limited to):

  • Experience with ASX Listing Rules, the Corporations Act, and ASIC Regulatory Guides,
  • Experience with publicly listed companies,
  • Practical application of the VALMIN and/or JORC Codes in technical assessments and valuations,
  • ESG, sustainability, or social practice experience,
  • Experience with mandatory climate disclosure reporting,
  • Auditing and/or governance expertise.

Motivation for nominating for the committee given it is a voluntary role. If you have the relevant background and the time to contribute, we encourage you to submit your EOI (max of 2 x A4 pages plus CV) addressing the above criteria to contact@valmin.org  by COB 21 November 2025.
