We are excited to announce that in 2026 the APAC (formerly National) Mining Games will be heading to the sunny East Coast, bringing the Games to Brisbane for the second time in recent years.

With ambitious plans to significantly increase team capacity at the Games site, 2026 is shaping up to be one for the history books. This event provides an incredible opportunity for students from across Australia and the Tasman Sea to come together and showcase their skills in a competitive environment - while not only strengthening existing industry and peer connections, but also creating space for new relationships to grow.

The Mining Games are recognised around the world, with the Intercollegiate Mining Games now in their 48th occurrence. The Games began as a way to honour those lost in the 1972 Sunshine Mine disaster and to preserve the techniques and traditions that helped shape the mining industry into what it is today. Since then, they have evolved into one of the largest national and international platforms for students interested in the resources sector to gain invaluable experience, connections, and memories that last a lifetime.

While the APAC Mining Games take place in a controlled environment, safety remains paramount. In fact, it is within these settings that real safety behaviours are best learned and reinforced. The Games provide an opportunity for vital habits (such as conducting risk assessments, completing pre-task checks, and wearing appropriate PPE) to become second nature for emerging professionals, ensuring the competition is not only challenging and rewarding, but also safe.

The 2025 Games in Perth demonstrated the scale, professionalism, and impact that the APAC Mining Games can achieve. With strong participation, high-quality competition, and a clear emphasis on teamwork and safety, the Perth Games highlighted how effectively the event bridges the gap between study and industry practice. It set a high benchmark for future Games, showcasing what is possible when students, industry, and organisers come together around a shared passion for the resources sector.

Now, the Games are set to return to Brisbane, with aspirations to further expand team attendance alongside key upgrades to facilities and equipment, aiming to deliver the biggest and best APAC Mining Games yet. This is no small task following the success of Perth 2025, but one the organising team is excited to take it on.

With the Games returning to the East Coast for only the second time in recent years, Brisbane 2026 offers a unique opportunity for students nationwide to engage with the evolving mining industry in Queensland. For industry partners seeking meaningful collaboration, and students looking to grow their professional and peer networks, APAC Mining Games Brisbane 2026 will be the place to connect.
