Geoscience Society: Chair Update October 2025

· 197 words, 2 min read

Dear Geoscience Society Members,

I hope this message finds you well. The past couple of months have been busy for our committee, and I’d like to share a brief update on our recent activities. We had the opportunity for two delegates to attend the Critical Minerals Conference, and we’re looking forward to participating in the upcoming AusIMM Congress and Awards Ceremony in October.

We’ve also seen a few changes within the committee recently. Alongside the appointment of our new chair, we’ve finalised the remainder of the 2025 executive team. I’m pleased to introduce:

  • Desmond Fitzgerald – Vice Chair
  • David Turvey – Immediate Past Chair
  • Nicholas Ryan & Wendy Ware – Treasurer
  • Ian Wollff – Internal Secretary

Recently, our committee collaborated with AusIMM Queensland Branches and the AusIMM’s Policy and Advocacy team to submit a comprehensive response to the Queensland Government on "Land Release" for mineral and coal exploration. This initiative underscores our commitment to advocating for forward-thinking policies and helping to drive best practices within the geoscience community.

Thanks to all our members and fellow committee colleagues for your continued support and engagement. We’re excited about what’s ahead as we move into the next quarter.

Warm regards,
Zenoushka Bynevelt
Chair, Geoscience Society
