GEOFEST24 Rinjani-Lombok event recap
The 5th Geotourism Festival & International Conference was held in Ijen UGGp, Rinjani-Lombok UGGp and Sydney – Australia with the theme of Volcano as a World Class Geotourism Sustainable Development. The main event, which had the agenda for scientific parallel class took place in Rinjani- Lombok UGGp from 4 – 6 July 2024.
There were 4 topics discussed in this conference:
- Geotourism Development
- Linkage between Geological, Biological and Cultural Diversities in Geotourism
- Disaster Risk Reduction in Geotourism
- Wallacean Avifauna in Volcanic Landscape
One Australian attendee observed that Indonesian approach to developing geoparks is “build it and they will come”, including that numerous permits are readily forthcoming, whereas Australian geoparks are hindered by an attitude of “show me the money first” before any permits can be even applied for from the endless potential impacted parties.
Technical Abstracts.
An “Abstract Book” published a compilation of 46 technical papers under the categories of 1) Volcano Geotourism Development, 2) Linkage between geology, biology & cultural diversities in Geotourism, 3) Disaster risk reduction in geotourism, 4) Wallacean avifauna in volcanic landscape.
