International Future Mining Conference 2024
The International Future Mining Conference 2024 was held in Sydney from the 2-4 September 2024 and was co-hosted by the AusIMM and University of New South Wales (UNSW).
There were five overarching conference themes: innovations; energy innovations; mining in extreme environments and unconventional deposits; sustainable mining; and future skills and workforce evolution.
Some 140 abstracts were accepted for the conference. There were 16 pre-conference promotions posted on the AusIMM website including articles and videos from presenters, sponsors and more.
Previous International Future Mining Conference (2021 and earlier) are available through the AusIMM Digital Library with most of their full technical papers. The 2024 conference papers will be uploaded soon.
Zenoushka Bynevelt (AusIMM Geoscience Committee member) attended the conference and said: “Over the three days, I got to immerse myself in a technically curated program, exploring technology integration, AI, future skills, and workforce evolution—key areas shaping the future of mining and driving sustainability. The conference highlighted the power of collaboration and has sparked new ideas on how we can work together to better address the needs of the geoscience community. It was a privilege to network with innovators, professionals, and academics from across 20 countries.”
