Geoscience Society May 2024 Update

We are excited to provide you with the May Geoscience Society newsletter for 2024.
If you would like to submit a short article or provide feedback then please email geoscience@ausimm.com.
Preference for geoscience articles with some linkage to the AusIMM – such as a member giving a presentation. The AusIMM retains full editorial rights. It may take some time to process a newsletter edition, therein any notification of an event should have plenty of lead time. No commercial advertisements please.
Recent and upcoming events
Renzo Ocampo of the AusIMM Geoscience Society committee attended the Adelaide Students Chapter Meet Industry in Adelaide on 26 March 2024.
Geosoc committee members (David & Renzo), AMT (Margaret Temelkovski, Member Engagement & Relationships (Tilley Byrne), Adelaide Branch (Lachlan Wallace - Vice Chair), Adelaide SC (Timothy Blyzno - President) and NPN SA Ambassadors (Brooke North and Elyse Bosch).
Other upcoming events include:
- Mineral Processing Laboratory Tourfrom Bureau Veritas & Magotteaux at Wingfield, South Australia, potentially in mid-July. This event will be in collaboration with the AIG NGG, AusIMM Adelaide SC, and Adelaide University Geological Society (AUGS).
- Mineral Processing Laboratory Visitat Bureau Veritas main facility in Canning Vale, Western Australia, potentially in early May. The attendees will primarily be university students and young professionals from Western Australia, with some interstate participants. This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the AIG NGG, AusIMM UWA Student Chapter, and UWA Woolnough Geological Society, aiming to enrich the educational and professional experiences of those in the early stages of their careers in geology.
- Fleet Space Technologies Headquarters Visitat Beverley, South Australia. This event will feature an introduction of Ambient Noise Tomography, Fleet’s Seismic Payload for Interplanetary Discovery, Exploration, and Research (SPIDER) for space exploration, case studies, a tour of their 3D printing facility, and more. Fleet is looking forward to welcoming geologists, geophysicists and students at their Headquarters this year. This will be in collaboration with AusIMM Adelaide SC. Date TBA. Note also that the AusIMM National Mining Games will be returning this year in Brisbane in September 2024. This is a 2-day event following the New Leaders' Summit.
