12th Annual Jameson Distinguished Lecture - Newcastle

Effect of water quality in flotation performance

The Annual Jameson Distinguished Lecture, in honour of Emeritus Professor Graeme Jameson is presented by the Hunter Region Branch to highlight innovations in mineral processing.

Water quality plays a critical role in flotation performance, influencing both process chemistry and the efficiency of mineral and coal separation. This presentation will examine how variations in water composition affect reagent behaviour, froth stability, and overall recovery. A particular focus will be on the impact of recycled water, which often deteriorates in quality due to the accumulation of inorganic and organic species.

The presentation will also highlight practical implications for water management and outline strategies to mitigate adverse effects and optimise flotation performance under varying water quality conditions.

Date: Thursday, 30 October 2025 Time : 6.00pm - 8.30pm
Venue:
Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, 95 Hannell Street, Wickham NSW 2293

August Armidale Technical Talk event recap

On 5 August, 45 students and industry professionals braved the New England winter night to attend our annual Armidale Tech Talk. The presentation was regarding “Hillgrove: past, present, and future” endeavours. Larvotto Resources’ current Senior Mine Geologist, Tom Hancock, gave a well-structured presentation aimed at updating attendees to the latest operations at the historic Hillgrove mine-site and surrounds.

The presentation centred around the latest review of historic exploration results which identified several prospective locations for further drilling. This will facilitate a revised resource for gold, antimony and tungsten. Additional locations near the original mine were highlighted for future exploration and interpretation of the mineralisation along major geological features throughout the mine tenements. An underground mine plan was also presented to enable further drilling at depth. The mine operator hopes to commence production in 2026.

There was a welcoming turnout from known industry partners and University of New England students. These events are crucial networking opportunities for knowledgeable personnel and the inquisitive minds of students. With all seats full, we can only hope for an even larger engagement from students and the broader community in the future.
