Notes from the Consultants Society Chair
We are now rapidly approaching the end of the year, and your ConSoc committee has been hard at work! Here’s a snapshot of our progress and upcoming opportunities.
Committee election
During the recent call for expressions of interest to join the committee, the AusIMM Consultants Society received more nominations than vacancies available. An election was therefore required, and we invited members via email to vote for their preferred candidate. The results of the election will be announced shortly, with positions on the committee commencing from January 2026.
Professional Development – Study Processes Short Courses
We’ve already delivered the first of two short course sessions for "Study Processes in 2025." The second session is coming up this November! Whether you’re seeking to develop new skills, deepen your industry understanding, or simply have a keen interest in study outcomes, we encourage you to join us and hear from our expert presenters. Membership forums
We’ve just hosted our second recent Consultants Society Forum for members—my thanks go out to our outstanding presenters for their commitment to the industry and to AusIMM! This year we enabled online attendance for the first time, and we appreciate the feedback we have received so far from attendees both in person and online.
2024 Consultants Society Forum presentations
This newsletter also features the release of final presentations from last year’s Forum. We hope the information resonates and proves valuable for you.
Distinguished Speaker Series
Together with the AusIMM Management Team, we are excited to launch our inaugural Distinguished Speaker Series, kicking off with Deb Lord! With 35 years of global geological experience, Deb is Chair of the VALMIN Committee, serves on working groups for AMEC and JORC, and is a former member of the AusIMM Professional Conduct Committee. She is Director of VRM and sits on the boards of Lunnon Metals and E79 Gold. In 2023, Deb became the first woman to receive the AusIMM’s President’s Award in its 50-year history.
Acknowledgements
Special thanks to Chloe Bauerle from AMT for her support in preparing for the Forum; to Sandra Malbourne for her ever-enthusiastic involvement in our community; and, of course, to current and past ConSoc committee members for their tireless and enthusiastic commitment!
I'm looking forward to another successful end of the year together.
