AusIMM Sydney Student Chapter members were privileged to have met two representatives from Redpath Mining on the 13th of June, 2019 at the UNSW campus in Sydney. The student chapter organised a sponsored barbecue to hear from recent graduates about vacation and graduate opportunities at Redpath. Two young professionals from Redpath, Eden and Mat, spoke about the many opportunities available to students in the minerals sector. The students learned that Redpath Mining offers specialised services to the mining industry across Australia and internationally. Students were particularly excited hearing about the overseas opportunities that Redpath could provide later in their career.

The vacation work opportunities were practical and have been designed to apply university knowledge out in the field. It would provide younger students with industry exposure and some of the essential soft skills required in a great engineer. For the older students, the graduate opportunities Eden and Mat spoke about were exceptional, with nearly two years dedicated to gaining all the necessary underground competencies. Students that attended the barbecue after the talk were inspired by what a future in the mining industry could hold.

Redpath Mining is a major sponsor of the AusIMM Sydney Student Chapter and have been present in our recent, successful event: the ‘Student Meets Industry Night’. We look forward to seeing them at our Young Professionals’ Dinner. The student chapter would like to thank Redpath Mining for their ongoing support.
