As an added incentive for those travelling to Perth, the AMIRA P420G project team will be running their popular one and two day Gold Processing Courses the same week at Curtin University.

The one day course for non-metallurgists will be held on Tuesday the 18th May, with the two day course targeting metallurgists and technical specialists to be held on the 20-21 May. Again registration discounts apply to AusIMM members.

1 Day Gold Processing Course

Tuesday, May 18  (Amira P420G Sponsors – Free/AusIMM & Amira Members - $800/Non-members $1100)

Course Content:

Introduction to the metallurgical steps involved in gold  processing  and  the economic and technical factors that need to be considered when designing and operating a gold processing plant.

Topics covered will include:

  • Background to Gold Processing (including history of gold processing, exploration, mining and the project life cycle)
  • Crushing and Grinding - the critical first steps
  • Recovering Gold by Gravity - the simplest option
  • Refractory Gold - processing difficult ores
  • Leaching Gold with Cyanide
  • Recovering Gold from Solution - Merrill-Crowe and Carbon in Pulp,
  • Smelting and Refining Gold -  making the final product
  • Disposal of Gold Mine Tailings

Who Should Attend:

Designed to provide non-metallurgists with an introduction to the modern approach to gold processing/extraction.

Participants will obtain an understanding of the critical steps in typical flowsheets, including the technical and economic drivers that determine  plant  design. Geologists, mining engineers, environmental scientists, finance, purchasing, and human resources staff will find this course useful and interesting.

2 Day Gold Processing Course

Thursday & Friday, May 20 & 21 (Amira P420G Sponsors – Free/AusIMM & Amira Members - $1700/Non-members $2200)

Course Content:

This 2-day course will provide attendees with an understanding of the fundamentals and practical applications involved in gold processing with a particular emphasis on plant optimisation. Topics covered will include

  • Mineralogy
  • Gravity Recovery
  • Flotation
  • Cyanide Leaching
  • CIP Operations
  • Carbon Management
  • Elution & Electrowinning
  • Smelting
  • Refractory Ore Treatment Processes

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their plant practices and problems.

Who Should Attend:

Designed to provide practising metallurgists with knowledge and tools to  assist  in operation and optimisation of gold processing circuits. It will be of value to plant metallurgists, senior metallurgists, consultants and design engineers new to, or already working in, the gold industry who wish to upgrade or renew their knowledge in practical gold processing. The course will also benefit professionals in  related  disciplines  including  mining engineers, geologists, and environmental  managers who  wish to  further their knowledge of gold processing.
