Full-scale Tests on Precast Tunnel Segments Made in Concrete Reinforced with High-strength Steel Fibres

The results of full-scale tests on precast segment made at University of Roma are presented. The segments were cast using fibre-reinforced concrete produced without any traditional reinforcement, by using fiber made in high-strength steel and a new type of anchorage.Bending tests were performed in order to check the bearing capacity of the segments under the flexural actions; these occur during de-moulding, handling, storage phases as well as in the in situ condition (due to asymmetric soil pressure). Furthermore, point load tests simulating the TBM thrust were performed, in order to study the construction phase (excavation). The results show that the segment response largely respects the material testing and design advice according to the Fib Model Code 2010. Providing engineers, precast operators and builders confidence in material strengths and design methodology.CITATION:De Rivaz, B and Ross, A, 2014._x000D_
