Why Rehabilitate?
Legislative
Requirement
Land rehabilitation is a
condition of resource consents for mining. Clause 17 (1) of the Resource
Management Act 1991 (duty to avoid, remedy, or mitigate adverse effects)
provides the legislative basis for local authorities to impose resource consent
conditions requiring land to be rehabilitated to approved uses during and after
mining.
