Understanding Epithermal Ore Deposits from New Zealand Geothermal Systems
Study of geothermal systems in the Taupo
Volcanic Zone (TVZ) has significantly advanced our understanding of the
processes of epithermal mineralisation. The three main lessons learnt are:
1. knowledge of their chemical anatomy;
2. precious metal transport and deposition; and
3. hydrothermal alteration zoning.
These
are described in the context of ore formation and exploration.
