Annual output has expanded continuously since 1980 and is expected to be over 2 tonne of gold for 1989._x000D_
Following a historical review, the characteristics of typical operations, which use hydraulic excavators and mobile trommel units are discussed._x000D_
Descriptions are then given of alluvial activities in Otago and on the West Coast.
