Beyond grade - evolution of automation to provide timely information from blastholes in open cut operations
The development and deployment of BLASTDOG, a semi-autonomous system for acquiring high- resolution, real-time subsurface data from blastholes in open cut mining operations, enables a significant shift in how geological information is used to support mining decisions. The system enhances decision-making across key operational domains-geology, blasting, geotechnical, and processing-by delivering timely, consistent, and high-quality subsurface data. Integrated with a fully automated surface generation workflow and interactive 3D visualisation via MINEPORTAL, BLASTDOG enables the rapid, repeatable production of actionable insights on a daily basis. Surfaces are generated and version-controlled automatically, with immediate validation tools available to assess data quality and model reliability, ensuring continuous improvement and confidence in operational outcomes.
