Fleet management system in PT Indo Muro Kencana

PT Indo Muro Kencana (IMK) is a surface gold mine located in Mount Muro area, Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan province, Indonesia. The mining operation is conducted by using multiple open pits. Mining activity is operated by using combination of excavator and articulated dump truck (ADT). ADT with capacity of 40 t and 60 t are operated to deliver ore to mineral processing plant and to discard waste material to waste dump. To begin with, the objective of this paper is to explain condition of IMK before implementation of fleet management system (FMS) and IIS (Integrated Information System). Secondly, the purpose of this paper is to elucidate daily practice of FMS in IMK site. IMK is located in remote area, hilly topography and limited communication network (limited wi- fi and GSM signal). Correspondingly, ore hauling distance from pit to ore processing plant is approximately 8 km. At this point, it is recommended that FMS is required to track location and activity of mining units. In addition, it is required due to remote area location and to anticipate security issue due ore hauling. Currently, MineTrack VHF/UHF system (a product from SNCTechnologies, part of SatNetCom) is operated as FMS in IMK. It is operated by using existing mining radio frequency and facility (existing mining radio towers). Furthermore, daily practice of MineTrack VHF/UHF system as FMS is combined with IIS. Combination of MineTrack VHF/UHF system and IIS are used by mining operation engineer and mine production engineer to track location, activities of mining units, to get raw production data and to create mine production report. In conclusion, it can be seen that implementation of MineTrack VHF/UHF system as FMS and combined with IIS is applicable for medium-scale mining operation that is located in remote area with hilly topography and operated in multiple pit operation. This system is affordable for medium-scale mining operation that is located in remote area with potential security and social issue (non-technical aspects of mining operation). Also, it is claimed that this system is a low cost of operational cost and investment.
