Atlas Iron Limited's (Atlas) Abydos Mine has developed its Scarborough open pit proximal to a rock shelter that has been assessed as a significant Aboriginal heritage site by the Traditional Owners of the land._x000D_
The rock shelter, named Yurlu Kankala, is located to the north-west of the pit with a stand-off distance of 35 m. Within Atlas' Native Title Agreement with the Traditional Owners, and approvals from the Western Australian Department of Aboriginal Affairs, commitments have been made to conduct mining in a way that avoids or at least minimises disturbance and damage to the rock shelter.
