The optimisation of a vertical regrind mill at Renaissance Minerals, Okvau Mine
The Okvau Gold Mine is located in Mondulkiri province of eastern Cambodia. The 2MPTA concentrator consists of a primary crusher, ball mill, flotation, vertical regrind mill (1800 kW 9000 L), leaching circuit, gold elution and electrowinning. The vertical regrind mill had high wear on the rotors and grinding media. After investigation, it was identified that multiple improvement measures could be implemented and trialled, such as rotor configuration, media selection, operational philosophy. The rotor configuration and ceramic grinding media change allows for 86 per cent increase in vertical regrind mill wear life and larger reline intervals. The trial on new ceramic grinding media indicates a large 59 per cent reduction in media wear rate. Overall, the reduction in Operational Cost Expenditure (OPEX) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission is substantial. This paper will focus on the details of the improvements mentioned above, and the analysing the results which lead to more stable vertical regrind mill performance, and lower vertical regrind mill OPEX and GHG emissions.
