Design of Hydraulic Backfill Distribution Systems - Lessons from Case Studies
This paper presents an assessment of the status in design and operation of
deep level backfill distribution systems by referring to case studies and
practical experience. The improvements in design and operation of the
systems can largely be attributed to an improved understanding of slurry
(low behaviour and a corresponding integrated design approach that
includes slurry flow modelling, system design and application of the
latest technology. The conclusions summarise the lessons learnt from such case studies
and stresses the importance of design reviews and audits of existing
systems as a means to ensure that the mistakes of the past are not
repeated in the future.
