New Leaders' 2007
The 2007 New Leaders 'Conference focused on the outstanding number of opportunities that lie before new graduates entering the minerals industry under the theme of the Big Picture'.
The papers that make up the Conference Proceedings include contributions from as far off as Ghana and Papua New Guinea and cover a range of commodities such as coal, base metals and even mineral sands. A number of topics are technically based, focusing on the problems faced at mine sites by professionals. At the other end of the scale are papers on the life of mine planning, emphasising that rehabilitation should be considered in day-to-day operations as well as during the planning of a greenfield site. From a personal point of view, graduate experiences featured a number of times, each covering a different area of the industry. Other themes include risk assessment, legal obligations and climate change.
