New Leaders' 2008
The theme for this year's conference, A mining planet: Australia's role in the
international minerals industry', provides an opportunity for recent graduates
and future graduates to understand much more about the minerals
industry.
The proceedings contains some papers which discuss the socio-economic and
environmental impacts of mining, and the impacts of mining to surrounding
communities. Papers include not only negative impacts but also many positive
aspects, and this is perhaps an indication of how the industry has changed its
approach as it looks towards the future.
Of immediate concern to most new graduates is how to get the best employment
opportunity upon graduating. Addressing this issue are papers which provide
practical advice and hints on good leadership qualities. Technical paper
contributions include innovations in dust monitoring, ventilation design, value
adding, small-scale mining and more.
