From a personal view that encompasses both research and assessment of
major projects the author outlines the two competitive pressures that will
force more rather than less metallurgy viz the increasing difficulty in
purchasing the latest overseas developments and environmental concerns.
This paper then goes on to argue that Australian metallurgy or more
precisely process engineering may be in a unique position to deliver the
required results.
