It is extraordinary that while Australia depends heavily on
mineral wealth for its economic well-being, most Australians
have no appreciation of the traditions and principles which drive
and govern the mineral industry. Their understanding has been
largely provided by those who campaign against the industry in
one way or another and is therefore quite unrepresentative.
