Probable relation between the zinciferous sulphide ores and the oxidised ores of the Broken-Hill lode
THE question of the future success of mining at Broken-Hill is not so much the difficulty of treating the zinciferous ores for silver as the actual percentage of the two metals contained. Many of the difficulties at present surrounding the question may be greatly modified, if not removed, in the near future by the introduction of improved methods of treatment, electrical and otherwise, which we may reasonably expect will keep pace with the general scientific advancement of the age. Apart, however, from the purely metallurgical aspect of the question, it may be found during the further exploration of the lower ore bodies-that we have greatly overestimated the difficulties of the situation. For instance, there is some reasonable grounds for supposing that the sulphides may change greatly in their composition and arrangement as they are followed down through the zones of partial alteration to the unaltered ores
