Erection of a steel chimney
THE chimney has been erected to serve a battery of Babcock and Wilcox boilers to generate steam for a new power plant for the Sulphide Corporation Limited at the Central Mine, Broken Hill, to whose design and specifications it was constructed by Messrs. Hawke and Co., of Kapunda, South Australia. The chimney was planned to be constructed in three sections, portion of the bottom section being cone-shaped (see Plate XII.), and was intended to be transported in this form. It was found, however, that the cone portion was too large to be conveniently carried by the railway, and it was therefore sent as plates, to be put together in situ.
