Rill-stoping and skip-haulage-south blocks mine
STARTING from the main shaft a plat is cut 15 ft. x 30 ft. x 12 ft. high, tapering to 8 ft. high. Off this a cross-cut, 8 ft. x 8 ft. in the clear, is driven through the lode a distance of about 80 ft. A bin is excavated of approximately 150 tons capacity-minimum slope of bottom 60 into the shaft. The bin plat is about 50 ft. below the main plat, the bin being 10 ft. x 6 ft. in the clear. A 10-in. grizzly is placed over this, 6 ft. below the rail level and a tippler above to facilitate emptying trucks, of which there are four, of about 1 ton capacity, with roller bearings and 15 in. wheel base, for a level 1100 ft. long, producing about 4000 tons per month. At right angles to the main cross-cut, drives 8 ft. x 8 ft. in the clear are made in opposite directions along the East wall of the lode. If the lode is over 10 ft. in width, east and west wall-drives are put in. When one of these has reached a point 200 ft. from the cross-cut, stripping and leading stope is started from the crosscut. The driving of the west drive is continued whilst stripping, stoping and timbering are being completed on the east drive, and vice versa.
