*This is an abstract only. No full paper is available for this abstract.* This keynote presentation gives an overview of the research issues in the quantification, modelling, estimation and simulation of geometallurgical variables and their integration into resource and planning models. It gives an assessment of the progress to date together with some specific approaches that have been developed and implemented. An assessment of the remaining issues and challenges is also given with particular reference to problems of scale and non-linearity, sensed data and integrated resource modelling and optimisation._x000D_
