NSW released its first social impact assessment (SIA) guideline for mining development in 2017, and released a draft extended version for all development sectors on 30th October 2020. In this discussion, Richard and Sherie will outline the journey of SIA in NSW over the last few years, and describe how the guideline has been implemented in practice. Participants will gain insights into the attributes of a good SIA process, using examples of applying the 2017 guideline to real projects, and will learn about the key features of the new draft guideline.
