If you're studying engineering or geoscience, a career in mining or resources is likely on your radar – but knowing where to start can be challenging.

The BHP Resources Pathways Scholarship is designed to support you early in your journey, giving you a financial boost, industry exposure and connections to help you take the next step.

Built for your potential

This scholarship is built for students who are curious about a career in the mining industry and want to play a role in it.

Rather than focusing only on top academic performers, the program looks for students with potential – those who are engaged, motivated, and interested in contributing to a safer, more sustainable industry.

You don’t need to be in your final year to apply. Whether you’ve just started your degree or are well into your studies, this is an opportunity to build your path early.

Applications are open to students at all stages of their university journey, with scholarships awarded across undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Undergraduate Scholarships

2 scholarships available

For students currently completing an undergraduate degree and looking to build their pathway into the resources industry.

Postgraduate Scholarships

2 scholarships available

For students undertaking postgraduate study and preparing for a professional career in resources.

What you’ll receive  

Successful applicants will receive a range of benefits, including:
Financial support 
  • Receive $4,000 in direct financial support to assist with study and living costs.  
Conference access 
  • Receive complimentary delegate registrations to:
    • New Leaders Summit 2027
    • One additional AusIMM technical conference of your choice in 2027
Networking Opportunities
  • Invitations to attend New Professionals networking events throughout 2027, connecting you with peers and industry professionals. 
Professional development and industry exposure 
  • Build your understanding of the resources industry through participation in events, conferences and engagement opportunities across the year.

Who should apply 

You don’t need to have it all figured out. This scholarship is for students who are: 

  • Interested in the future of the resources and energy sector
  • Curious about how mining can be safer, more sustainable and more innovative
  • Getting involved in the mining industry, whether through study, student groups, or industry activities
  • Keen to learn, grow and contribute over time 

We strongly encourage applications from students in regional areas, from Indigenous backgrounds, or from communities that are underrepresented in the industry.  

Eligibility 

Before you apply, please check your eligibility. To be eligible, you must: 

  • Be studying at an Australian university 
  • Be enrolled in a relevant engineering or geoscience discipline 
  • Have working rights in Australia 
  • Maintain a credit average GPA 
  • Not be receiving another scholarship over $3,000 per year
