Mentee interview: Christine McLachlan
AusIMM’s Mentoring Program helps mentees find career guidance and direction, and the opportunity to develop goals with an experienced professional who has been where they are.
In the lead up to the beginning of the program in 2023, we caught up with Christine McLachlan, an environmental scientist who was involved in our 2022 Program as a mentee.
Here’s what Christine had to say about her experiences:
Why did you choose to apply for the AusIMM Mentorship Program?
This program was recommended to me by one of our consultants. I was in a bit of a rut at work and aspired to do more, so I thought this could be a way of breaking through some barriers, challenging myself and advancing my career. I believe that mentors can have a very real and positive influence on people.
Has anything changed in your work life so far?
I am now a lot more organised and have increased confidence. I also feel that my career path is clearer with medium and long-term goals set, which I am working towards.
What have you taken away from your mentoring experience?
I had never been a goal-oriented person, so setting goals and seeing the pathway forward has made a big difference to how I operate in my work, and how I approach advancing my skills and career.
Is there a key benefit you have had from the AusIMM Mentorship Program?
An increase in confidence in both my personal and professional like has allowed me to back myself much more than I previously would, and enabled me to be more effective in my interactions.
