DSI Underground Webinar

1
PD Hours
Please join the Mining Society for the final Technical Talk of the year hosted by David Evans & Kent McTyer.

About this event

The webinar will discuss the following topics.

David will focus on 'The Mechanics of Dynamic Ground Support'.

Dynamic support continues as an area of important research, given the growing demands of deeper and high-stress mining environments.

While the geotechnical design is the overarching discipline, the mechanics and mechanical response of ground support elements are equally critical to understand and apply within this field.

This presentation will firstly provide an overview of the basic mathematics of energy calculations in mechanical ground support elements.

Following this, recent dynamic test work and data results will be presented for a variety of bolt types and anchoring media, including an overview of test methodology.

Finally, dynamic energy classification charts will be discussed, summarising the test results and providing a comparison of bolt performance and test repeatability.

The presentation is intended to provide a general overview for those working within this field of application

Kent will discuss 'Heat Effects on Resin Anchored Rock Bolts'.

In response to a 2018 underground coal fire incident, a mine wide review of the impact on ground support was undertaken in preparation for the planned mine re-entry.

This review found that no real data existed on the effect of high temperature on the efficacy of resin anchored rock bolts.

In support of this evaluation process, DSI Underground developed a novel method to test the effect of heat on the bolt steel elements and load transfer of the resin anchored bolt.

This study aimed to provide mine management with an insight into the effect of high heat events on bolts and provide a guide when evaluating the ground support condition

We look forward to welcoming you on the 2nd of December.
