Kim Morrison is a globally recognized ESG leader and technical authority with nearly 30 years of experience driving sustainable mining practices. As Chief Technical Officer at ATC Williams (Melbourne), she provides strategic leadership while championing operational excellence across the organization's global operations.

Kim's leadership in ESG transformation is exemplified through her pioneering role as former global function lead for tailings, dams and heap leach at Newmont Corporation (2019-2024), where she spearheaded enterprise-wide implementation of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) while regularly presenting sustainability metrics to the Board-level Safety & Sustainability Committee. She founded and chaired the GeoStable Tailings Consortium, a groundbreaking multi-company initiative advancing innovative waste treatment technologies.

Her entrepreneurial acumen and business leadership are demonstrated through founding her own consulting firm in 2012, where she guided clients through complex regulatory landscapes while balancing environmental responsibility with operational viability. Kim's strategic expertise extends to high-stakes M&A transactions, including supporting mining operators through comprehensive ESG due diligence evaluations.

As a thought leader shaping industry practices, Kim has authored over 50 technical publications and served as managing editor for the Tailings Management Handbook: A Lifecycle Approach, a seminal industry handbook with over 100 global contributors, published by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME). Her leadership roles with SME and the Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA) combined with her contributions through the International Council on Mining and Metals’ (ICMM) tailings working group, have been instrumental in developing global best practices that elevate environmental and social governance across the mining sector.

Kim's commitment to developing the next generation of mining professionals is demonstrated through her academic leadership at Colorado School of Mines, where she served as Adjunct Professor and Interim Director of the Tailings Center, a prestigious university-industry consortium. Kim's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, combined with her technical mastery and regulatory expertise, position her as a trusted advisor on ESG strategy, risk management frameworks, and ethical corporate governance. Her distinguished recognition includes the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining (2020), AIME's Environmental Stewardship Distinguished Service Award (2022), and designation as an SME Fellow (2024).
