Update from the President and CEO – July 2021
Dear members, we hope that wherever you are in the world, you and your loved ones are keeping safe and well.
We know many of our members are directly impacted by the serious and ever-changing coronavirus situation, as well as the flow on effects of lockdowns and restricted travel. This is particularly challenging for our members working on-site who may be unable to see family and friends.
The value of remaining connected to our peers and industry through AusIMM is clearer than ever. We are proud of the way our global community has been resilient and supported each other, especially over the last 18 months.
It has been great to see the leading role our Communities of Interest (COIs) are taking to keep our members connected. Some COIs have been fortunate enough to meet in person to share experiences and learn from each other. Recent events include the Mining Round-Up in Cairns, the President’s Dinner in South-West WA, and numerous technical talks and workshops across the country in Perth, Adelaide, regional Victoria and more.
It has also been fantastic to see online participation in community initiatives including the live-stream of our combined Mining Society/Perth Branch Distinguished Lecture and webinars from our Women in Mining Networks and Geoscience, S&E, Consultants and Metallurgical Societies.
AusIMM continues to strengthen our capability to deliver online content. This includes four hybrid/digital conferences already this year, and five more to be hosted in 2021. We also offer a growing suite of 13 online courses across a variety of topics, as well as our extensive digital library, allowing our members to upskill wherever they are. We have recently recruited new members into our digital and online content teams to deliver world-class online material and keep building out our offerings.
