The Hunter New England Student Chapter (HNESC) held their annual Student Meet Industry (SMI) night at Noah's on the Beach in Newcastle on the 3rd of April. Over 130 people were in attendance with 90 students coming on the night. This included students studying Business, Surveying, Environmental Science, IT, and also Engineering students from disciples of civil, environmental, electrical, mechanical, chemical and renewable engineering. The event was a casual networking event for students to learn about job opportunities related to the mining and minerals industry. A great success.

At Armidale, the HNESC held their second SMI night at Rydges Armidale on the 11th of April. Over 40 students were in attendance with Geoscience and Environmental Science backgrounds. Similarly, the goal of the night was for students to directly engage with industry to gain insights into career pathways and practices in industry. Another great success.

The Student Chapter recently held two mine site tours, to United Wambo and BHP Mt Arthur mines. Both tours sold out within a day, with 22 students in total signing up. These site tours were both a great day and good learning opportunities. We will try to run another one next semester due to the success of these.

We are now focused on working towards a budget for the New Leaders Summit & Mining Games in Brisbane. We also are looking at ordering some shirts to wear with our sponsors on them.
