Hunter Region Branch March 2024 Chair Update
Dear Hunter Branch members,
With this being our first newsletter for the year, allow me to wish each of our members every success in the year ahead. Your Committee recently held a planning meeting on the weekend of 24 February resulting in the proposed programme of events that you see below. We are now in the process of making arrangements for these and while some are still to be confirmed, others are locked in. I want in particular to bring your attention to our hosting of the AusIMM Mining Society’s annual distinguished lecture in Singleton on 13th May. The lecture is being presented by Neil Cusworth and sure to be of interest to anyone who has been involved in large projects at any time.
It was also pleasing that representatives of the Student Chapter could attend the planning session. They are making arrangements for Students Meet Industry Nights in both Newcastle and Armidale, so please support those, including through sponsorship if you can.
Importantly, your Branch Committee are inviting you to get more directly involved by participating in Committee arrangements. The ask is light – we have a monthly virtual meeting and then ad hoc involvement in Branch events as you are able. Please email me at hunter@ausimm.com.au if you are able to assist. Ideally we are seeking at least three additional committee members.

Thanks for their service go to Hunter Region committee members Kim Wright, Alison Guest and Jay Jensen-Langford who are stepping down from our committee.
Kim Wright deserves particular mention - Kim has been involved in Hunter Branch activities for a long time, was instrumental in establishing the Jameson Distinguished Lecture, and in recent years took responsibility for all annual lecture arrangements, including selecting and securing speakers.
