Upcoming tech talk - 8 July – In-situ Rock Stress Measurement - Singleton

Hunter Region Branch Tech Talk: Continuous stress tensor determination from wireline logs.

Unlock the next generation of geomechanical insights as speaker Nick Harvey presents a break through workflow for continuous in situ stress tensor determination using wireline logs.

By integrating acoustic borehole image ovality with full wave sonic and density data, this method provides interval‑by‑interval stress orientations and magnitudes -representing a significant advancement beyond traditional point‑scale techniques such as over-coring.

Case studies from three contrasting geological settings will demonstrate how this workflow captures critical stress variability that conventional methods often overlook.

This session is highly relevant to those working across mine design, ground control and geotechnical risk management.

Past events recap

Orica Kooragang Island Facility Tour – Wed 20 May

About 20 members enjoyed a fantastic Technical Site Visit to Orica's Kooragang Island facility in late May.  Orica showed the attendees about the operation of the plant and described their upcoming foray into clean Hydrogen, which will be 100% consumed by their production facility.

This facility is a technically challenging one and is a major industrial site of NSW, consuming over 15% of NSW's natural gas supply.
