Past event

Hunter Region Branch Tech Talk: Continuous stress tensor determination from wireline logs.
Singleton - Wednesday 8 July

On Thursday 8 July about 20 members heard speaker Nick Harvey from Harvey Rock Physics present a break-through workflow for continuous in-situ stress tensor determination using wireline logs.

By integrating acoustic borehole image ovality with full wave sonic and density data, this method provides interval‑by‑interval stress orientations and magnitudes. This represents a significant advancement beyond traditional point‑scale techniques such as over-coring. This technology has now been used in the Hunter Valley, WA and Africa on coal and hard-rock applications.

Case studies were presented from Hunter Valley and the Eastern Goldfields Yilgarn Block in WA, demonstrating how this technique captures critical stress variability that conventional methods often overlook.

Thanks go to Groundsearch Australia for sponsoring this event enabling it to be a free of charge event for members.

Hunter Region Branch: Members networking event
Maitland - Thursday 23 July

An informal Hunter Region Branch networking event was held at the Grand Junction Hotel, Maitland, on Thursday 23 July. This event provided the chance to connect with peers in a historic hotel environment.

Snacks were provided, and it was good to see several Student members attending on the night.

Further informal networking events of this kind may be provided in the future if there is demand from members.
