An amazing range of operational metallurgy presentations were given at this year’s MetFest to a sell-out audience of 80 attendees!  It’s encouraging to have such a big crowd come to Orange in the middle of winter and speaks to the quality of the presenters, the presentations and the event package.

The day started with a tour of the processing facilities at Newcrest’s Cadia Valley Operations, looking at not just one of the worlds largest operations but also one of the most advanced with the new hydrofloat technology being a key area of interest.  In the afternoon, 7 site based metallurgists presented the latest in our region from Northparkes, CSA (Cobar) and Cadia.

The Delprat lecture concluded formalities, with J.P. Franzidis’ confronting presentation on Mining and Society.

As always the social events were a highlight.  Networking drinks providing the opportunity for what is often an annual catch-up with friends, and the introduction of new faces to our regional group.  A wine tour was held the next day, with Orange turning on beautiful weather for a day in the country-side.
Upcoming Events:

We are seeking presentation abstracts for our upcoming MetFest events in Kalgoorlie, Perth and Brisbane (there are also sponsorship opportunities available for these events).  The call for abstracts has also gone out for papers for next years MillOps conference, so put pen to paper and get your good work presented at one of these fabulous events:

A process operators technical training package will be offered in Orange during 2020. Keep an eye out for updates on these events.
