Hunter Region Branch: Student Chapter Update - August 2026
The Hunter Student Chapter continues to provide valuable opportunities for students to develop their professional skills, expand their networks, and engage with the resources industry.
Hunter Student Chapter: Quick Fire Night
Thursday 20 August - Newcastle
QuickFire Night is a fast-paced student presentation event hosted by the AusIMM Hunter Region Branch, designed to give university students and early-stage researchers an opportunity to present an original idea, research project, work-related insight, or industry-relevant concept in a concise and engaging format.
The event will centre on short, high-impact presentations delivered in front of a live audience of peers, AusIMM representatives, judges, and invited industry guests. The primary focus will be on undergraduate students, with a separate category for postgraduate students and researchers.
The event encourages students and researchers to share ideas connected to AusIMM’s industry, including mining, resources, metallurgy, geoscience, processing, sustainability, technology, and related professional disciplines.
The proposed Welcome Week timing is intended to capitalise on a busy, energetic campus early in semester, while the high-energy QuickFire format gives the event a memorable, novelty-driven appeal.
Venue: Bar on the Hill, University of Newcastle - Callaghan Campus.
Date: Thursday, 20 August (UoN Semester 2, Week 1)
Time: 5.00pm - 8.00pm
