Presented at the Perth Branch February Technical Talk.

Dr Glenn Callow, Manager – Automation & Analytics Development at Rio Tinto presented a high level overview of Rio Tinto’s automation program on March 27 2019 at the Rio Tinto Perth CBD offices.

He has an Engineering Doctorate from Loughborough University with a thesis on the systems engineering of autonomous systems; and an undergraduate degree from the University of York in Computer Science.

Since 2012, he has worked at Rio Tinto and currently leads the Mine Automation development team. Prior to this, he worked at BAE Systems at their core progressive research centre where some of the current intelligent autonomous systems used today were developed in the 90’s.

Rio Tinto has been investing in and developing automation for many years. He gave an overview of some of the projects and initiatives Rio Tinto has pursued; how we think about automation and what the impact is going to be. Finally, he gives examples of some successes Rio Tinto has had in automation.

This Technical talk was the first of the Perth Branch CBD tech talks hosted by Rio Tinto which was presented to a sell-out crowd.
