AusIMM’s New Leaders Conference returns in September 2021 with a unique opportunity for young mining professionals to kickstart their career in the resources sector.

Held in Brisbane and online, the conference theme is ‘Champions of Change’, inspiring students, graduates, and young mining professionals to act boldly and have a positive impact on the industry and their communities. Over two days, the conference will allow delegates to learn from and engage with industry experts and motivating speakers.

AusIMM’s hybrid platform will allow online access to delegates interstate, overseas or on-site to engage with presentations, on-demand content and discussions on current and future issues impacting young professionals in the mining industry.

Attendees will benefit from a range of topics including leadership growth and development, diversity and inclusion, social and environmental impacts, safety leadership and mental health, and technology and innovation.

Delegates will be able to build meaningful relationships early in their careers with face-to-face networking functions and the chance to interact with other attendees online via chat, video call, virtual one-on-one meetings and discussion groups.

AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin said the New Leaders Conference was an important part of AusIMM’s calendar of events.

‘Young professionals in mining today will be leading our sector into the future. AusIMM are committed to ensuring that, from the beginning of their time in our industry, people working in mining are supported and guided to have long, meaningful careers.

‘A crucial part of this is equipping students and young people in mining from day one with the professional development, confidence and inspiration to be innovative leaders with integrity.’

The stellar line up of conference speakers includes: Samantha Langley, Principal Business Planning Climate Change, BHP Nickel West; Jason Hume, Senior Advisor Organisational Development, Newcrest Mining Limited; Grant Ballantyne MAusIMM, Director Technical Solutions, Ausenco; Andrew Seccombe MAusIMM(CP), Chair, BPEQ; and Florence Drummond, CEO & Co-Founder, Indigenous Women in Mining & Resources Australia (IWIMRA). More speakers can be found on the conference website.

Students are encouraged to discover new heights with AusIMM and join delegates from around the world to hear from leading global experts, participate in robust discussions and shape their careers.
