An integrated power-process-data architecture for resilient critical mineral processing
Critical mineral supply chains are expanding under strategic demand, trade restrictions and high refining concentration. The International Energy Agency reports that the average share of the three largest refining countries rose from 82 per cent in 2020 to 86 per cent in 2024, while export controls are extending from raw materials to processing technologies (IEA, 2025). Resilience therefore requires more than new capacity: plants must maintain saleable product quality as ore mineralogy, power availability, reagent supply, customer specifications and market value change. This paper proposes a Schneider Electric power-process-data architecture for beneficiation, extraction and refining. Sensor-based separation, coarse rejection, advanced flotation, hydrometallurgy and modular refining create value only when their control, electrical and information systems are engineered as one operating system. The objective is minimum risk adjusted cost per saleable tonne within recovery, grade, energy, water, equipment and product qualification constraints.
