Strengthening critical control management – insights from the revised ICMM Good Practice Guide
This presentation explores the key learnings and important updates that have been made to the revised International Council of Mines and Metals (ICMM) Good Practice Guidance on Critical Control Management (2026). It is a firsthand account from the presenter’s experience as a lead contributor to the revision of the Guide and a trusted adviser to many companies within the mining, metals and related high hazard industries. The presenter was part of the ICMM Working Group who conducted the review of the Guide, shaped by engagement and feedback from member organisations. The presentation covers the context to why the Guide was updated, what has and has not changed and how this may be relevant to your role as a leader or practitioner involved in implementing critical control management for preventing fatalities or other catastrophic events.
