THE completion of the Linda Incline Man and Supply shaft at the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company's mine led to an investigation of the various safety gears in general use in mining shafts. None of these gears completely fulfilled the necessary conditions. This paper endeavours to give a description of the man cars and safety gears now operating in the before mentioned shaft, together with the main considerations leading to their design and subsequent adoption.
