Electric winding and coarse crushing plant at no. 7 shaft, Broken Hill South Limited
The sinking of No. 7 shaft, to provide for the more efficient mining of the ore developed in the southern end of the Broken Hill South Mine leases, necessitated reorganisation of the winding and coarse crushing plant at the mine. The object of this paper is to describe the electric winding and coarse crushing plant, as installed and put into commission on the 2nd December, 1931. The description of this installation will serve to link up the two earlier papers-(1) the description of the sinking of No. 7 shaft and (2) the description of the concentrating mill, both published in Proceedings No. 88, 1932, of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. The location of the shaft and the coarse crushing unit relative to the crushed ore bins at the concentrating mill is shown on the surface plan.
