Pan African metallogeny and gold mineralizations, Central Sudan

The basement complex of North Kordofan is one of the richest Pan-African orogenic shear dominated systems in Sudan. The Basement Complex rock units of Central Sudan comprise Pan African medium to high grade old migmatized gneisses meta volcanosedimentary rock units accompanied by subordinate basic and ultrabasic obducted members. These were later intruded by syn- to late-orogenic various plutons of granites of different ages. These magmatic activities seem to have been accompanied by another major shearing (Ummbadir Shear Zone, UBSZ) of middle- late Proterozoic age, which was , in turn, accompanied by cataclastic, volcanic, and pyroclastic components that extend along the area associated with felsite dikes, quartz veins, as well as hydrothermal activity. Alkaline post tectonic igneous intrusions of granites, syenites, and subordinate gabbro culminated the magmatic activities in the study area. The area was found to be affected by four major deformational episodes and ductile shearing. The hydrothermal activities resulted in sulfide mineralization of Cu, Fe, As, Ni, and associated economic gold mineralization. The tectono-metamorphic evolution of the area resembles the juvenile Pan-African terranes of the Arabian Nubian Shield, well established elsewhere. The mineralizations seem to have been emanated by hydrothermal fluids via major shear zones constituting the passage way for these fluids that deposited their load proximal to their sources.
