Steelmaking makes a significant contribution to human produced greenhouse gases and there is a worldwide push towards decarbonising the process. There wide range of approaches to achieving this goal and Professor Brooks will describe and evaluate some of the major options being developed around the world at the moment, including Hydrogen DRI production, Hydrogen Injection into Blast Furnaces, Direct Smelting with Carbon Capture and Storage, and Molten Electrolysis. He will also discuss the potential for moving towards a circular steel cycle where scrap is the major feedstock.
