Geoscience Society - Webinar: Communicating With Investors - Lessons From The Biotechnology Industry
Presented by John Robertson.
Mining industry executives must communicate complex technical information to investors as they seek critical funding for the industry’s activities. Committed long term investors persuaded by high quality information flows are critical to developing a sustainable business model.
The biotechnology industry, which shares many of the same risk characteristics of the miners, competes for the same pool of funds targeted by the mining industry. As a result, investors are making comparisons between the communication abilities displayed by the two industries in making judgements about where to invest.
Biotechnology executives are generally more skilled at conveying complex scientific data in an intuitively appealing manner than mining industry executives. As a result, mining executives are foregoing an important competitive edge in sourcing their capital needs.
The webinar aims to draw out the key differences in how the two groups present technical information to investors with the aim of identifying how miners can improve their communication skills, boost their claims on Australian capital, lower their cost of capital and build more sustainable businesses.
