Kalgoorlie Branch - Digital Tech Talk - Big Data Meets Lithochemistry: A New Tool for Exploration and Metallurgy

Identifying significant exploration drilling results is very difficult for geologists because of the large number of elements to consider, as well as the large number of possible anisotropies in their 3D distribution. Consequently, this work is seldom done effectively, and valuable insights into multi-million-dollar drilling programs are never recognised.
The solution to this challenge is to harness modern computer power together with knowledge engineering technology to let the computer find the important lithogeochemical zones and report them to geologists for further evaluation and action. This presentation will demonstrate the simple workflows and powerful software now available to efficiently realise the full value of multi-million-dollar multi-element drilling programs. In this light, Clinton will introduce DRIVER, Minerva’s software system that automatically identifies single- and multi-element zones in well-defined drilling data sets, and relates them to other mineral deposits with matching lithogeochemical zonation.
